Nitin Sawhney is working with 70 participants and collaborators across Coventry including poets, musicians, and two community choirs, Choir With No Name and Spires Music, who will be performing alongside the Coventry Cathedral choirs for the finale section in the Cathedral Ruins.

'It’s a piece of music like nothing I’ve ever sang or played or been involved in before. It’s very unusual but fabulous at the same time. And then trying to learn it when there aren’t any understandable words – it’s these sounds – is a new experience as well.' – Morag Clark, Spires Music.

MEET THE POETS WRITING FOR GHOSTS IN THE RUINS

More tickets are released and it's selling fast, book now to avoid disappointment.

Nitin Sawhney is working with nearly 100 participants and collaborators across Coventry including community choirs, musicians, and our very own Poet Laureate Emilie Lauren Jones and Young Poet Laureate Hawwa Hussain.

There will be three poetry readings that represent Coventry's past, present and future during the performance. Emilie and Hawwa have been working in collaboration with local writers on the new pieces for this performance.

'The Cathedral is so symbolic of the spirit of Coventry, something that was broken, but thanks to the community and that inner strength, it grew again. I think we hold that within us.'  Emilie Lauren Jones.

'The music, it just really gave me goosebumps. It was just so wonderful and I can’t wait to hear how it sounds with the poetry because there’s the music aspect, and then there’s the poetry aspect, but together it’s just going to be absolutely incredible. I can’t wait to hear it!'
Hawwa Hussain.

Join the 100 participants who have created Ghosts In The Ruins to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Coventry Cathedral. The walls of the Cathedral will come alive with history, before we reflect on our present and look ahead to our future as a city of sanctuary.

Nitin Sawhney CBE has created this new site-specific performance in response to Benjamin Britten’s masterpiece War Requiem. It explores acceptance, hope and resilience through extraordinary choral performances and visuals from both inside the new Coventry Cathedral and outside in the Cathedral Ruins.

On Thursday 27 January, we are proud to host Nitin for a special Q&A session after the performance.
