Over the last month a dedicated band of volunteers has been busy transferring the Cathedral's archive to a new location in the Undercroft. This project means the consolidation of our precious archives into one secure space from the two smaller rooms previously occupied. These rooms are now being converted back for staff office use.
This important project has been helped to fruition through a gift of ?3,500 from The Friends towards the installation of a mezzanine storage area and rack shelving.
The Friends 2008 Appeal is still open for anyone who wishes to contribute to this cause and also to the installation of a Tolling Bell in the Cathedral Tower and further restoration works in the Haigh Chapel. We are seeking a balance of ?6,000 in donations to match that allocated directly from Friends funds.
Although the move has involved considerable upheaval at short notice, it has enabled a degree of re-sorting and cataloguing that will continue for many months to come.
